1 Chronicles 13:14
And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had. And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.
David's first attempt to move the ark failed because it was not handled according to God's order: when Uzzah reached out to steady it God struck him, David became afraid to take the ark home, then repented and later had it carried on the priests' shoulders, acknowledging the trouble came because they had not sought the Lord according to the proper order. After David halted the ark's journey to Jerusalem, it stayed in Obed-edom's house for three months. The "house" and "family" mean a household or family of people, rather than merely a building.
While the ark remained there, the Lord blessed Obed-edom's household. That blessing extended to all that he had or possessed or owned. Seeing those blessings made David want the ark brought to Jerusalem. The stay marks the period before the transfer, when David and the priests later carried the ark with greater reverence and obedience to God's requirements and with greater joy than when they had left it there.
As God's blessing rested on a dwelling-place for what is holy, it may likewise rest on people whose hearts, through the grace of Jesus Christ, are made a dwelling-place for the holy principles of his law. The blessing applies to a household receiving God's blessing amid spiritual darkness. The blessing illustrates that a home welcoming those who bring a message of peace receives a blessing.
