1 Chronicles 26:13

And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.

This verse belongs to the account of David's plans for the service of the house of God. The gatekeepers cast lots for every gate according to the house of their fathers, with the small as well as the great included alike without distinction of rank, the assignments being made by ancestral houses. It is an Old Testament example of the Hebrew word translated as lot.

Here lot means a decision or assignment made by casting lots, a method of assigning duties or places, not an inherited portion of land or inherited territory. In the same sense Daniel stands in his lot, meaning that at the end of the days Daniel stands among the righteous dead in the judgment, represented by his Advocate, a position he has held since the days ended.
