1 Chronicles 4:8

And Coz begat Anub, and Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.

The verse records Coz as the father of Anub and Zobebah and as the ancestor of the families of Aharhel the son of Harum. It belongs to the carefully preserved genealogy of Judah, which maintained the record of the tribe through which Christ came. It is part of the genealogies recording family ancestry that provided proof of hereditary descent needed after the exile to allot land and restore hereditary temple duties.

The verse exemplifies the long lists of names that readers may find difficult to understand or see the value of. Its inclusion shows that the interest and value of the Bible is not equally apparent to every person, while such lists can interest scholars studying the origins and distribution of peoples. It is not an expressed precious promise to God's people but simply a verse of names of persons. It belongs to twelve chapters of 1 Chronicles containing over five hundred verses that are nearly all names, part of more than fifteen hundred verses in Scripture made up of lists of names of persons, places, nations, cities and kings, which must be subtracted from the total of thirty-one thousand five hundred and thirteen verses in the Bible, leaving about thirty thousand verses that could possibly be promises and showing there cannot be thirty-six thousand distinct promises.

Its place in the genealogy illustrates that God is particular about keeping records and that a faithful record of each soul is kept in heaven.
