1 Corinthians 7:4
The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
Marriage establishes a mutual claim of husband and wife upon each other, not a one-sided right of the husband over the wife. That claim does not give the husband power over his wife's mind, individuality, and conscience, for she remains responsible to God and must not surrender her identity and conscience to her husband's will.
It does not license a husband to use his wife for no other purpose than to gratify lustful passions. Bringing children into the world as fast as possible, without time for the mother to recover strength from weakness, without sufficient means to feed and clothe and educate them, without proper care for them, and without time and opportunity for the wife and mother to cultivate her mind and devote herself to religious work, is not of God and does not glorify Him. A sterile condition is preferable to such a misuse of marriage.
