1 Kings 15:32

And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

Saul was succeeded by David and Solomon, and at Solomon's death Rehoboam took the kingdom but lost a large portion of it through imprudent stubbornness. The kingdom was divided into Judah and Israel after Solomon multiplied wives to himself and turned his heart from God. After the division and the introduction of idolatry in Israel under Jeroboam, the account in 1 Kings 15 covers the reigns of Abijah and Asa in Judah and Nadab and Baasha in Israel. The verse belongs to the history of Judah and Israel after the ten tribes separated from Judah, within an account covering about eighty years through the death of Jehoshaphat.

The history after the division is found in the remainder of 1 Kings and the whole of 2 Kings. The war between Asa and Baasha all their days was part of the continual war and strife between the two divisions. The two kingdoms continued together, sometimes at war and sometimes at peace, until the kingdom of Israel was obliterated in 721 B.C.

The period was one of overall decline in moral character, though there were times of revival. When the people sought God, He worked for them, and faithful or unfaithful leaders strongly influenced the people.
