1 Kings 3:15
And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants. And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
This verse closes Solomon's consecration at Gibeon, where God appeared to him by night in a dream. In that appearance He promised a wise and understanding heart to judge His great people and to discern between good and bad. Because Solomon did not ask for long life, riches, or the life of his enemies, riches and honor were added to the gift of wisdom. Length of days was given conditionally, depending on walking in God's ways and keeping His statutes and commandments as David had done.
On awaking and recognizing the appearance as a dream, Solomon came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. There he offered up burnt offerings and offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants. After this worship and celebration he reigned over Israel. His prosperity and kingly influence came from God and would never have been taken from him if he had continued to obey all the Lord's commandments, so his prayer is to be carefully studied for every point on which his receiving the rich blessings God was ready to give depended.
