1 Kings 5:8
And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir. And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
Solomon had asked for cedars to be hewn in Lebanon, with his own servants working alongside Hiram's servants for wages, because his people had none skilled in hewing like the Sidonians. He explained that David could not build a house for the name of the Lord because of wars, that the Lord had now given him rest with no adversary or trouble, and that he purposed to build as the Lord had promised David that the son set on his throne would build a house for His name. When Hiram heard Solomon's words he rejoiced greatly and blessed the Lord for giving David a wise son over a great people.
He further declared that because the Lord loved His people He had made Solomon king, and blessed the Lord God of Israel who made heaven and earth for giving David a wise son endowed with prudence and understanding to build a house for the Lord. The verse records his willing agreement to do all Solomon desired concerning timber of cedar and timber of fir for the temple. His servants were to bring the timber down from Lebanon to the sea and convey it by floats to the appointed place for Solomon to receive.
He promised to cut as much wood out of Lebanon as Solomon should need and to bring it in floats by sea to Joppa for Solomon to carry up to Jerusalem. In return Solomon was to give food for Hiram's household. Hiram asked for the promised wheat, barley, oil and wine to be sent to his servants.
As part of the agreement he sent a man endowed with understanding and skill to work in gold, silver, brass, iron, stone, timber, purple, blue, fine linen and crimson, to engrave any engraving and to devise every device, to work with Solomon's skilled men and with the skilled men of David. The cedar and fir wood requested was prepared and transported for the construction of the temple.
