1 Kings 9:13
And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day. And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.
1 Kings 9 belongs to the account of Solomon's reign over the undivided kingdom, whose events are also covered in 2 Chronicles 1-9. It belongs to the account of Solomon giving Galilean cities to Hiram as payment, handing over towns in a region where ancient Gentile peoples had remained despite Israel's efforts to displace them. It records Hiram asking what cities these were that Solomon had given him, asking what kind of cities they were, and giving his name for them as the land of Cabul. His question expressed his displeasure, because he considered the cities unsatisfactory. He called them the land of Cabul, a designation that was retained to the time the account was written and remained in use then. The name Cabul was associated with the poor value of the region. The passage itself gives no further explanation of the name or the event.
