1 Samuel 15:33
And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal. And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
Agag was the king of the Amalekites. At Gilgal before the Lord, Samuel himself carried out God's sentence of judgment against Agag by executing him. Agag's violent cruelty with the sword had made women childless. Samuel announced a matching retribution that Agag's own mother would become childless among women.
Agag's influence also promoted idolatry. The judgment followed Saul's disobedience in sparing Agag and rejecting God's command. The execution vindicated God's honor and rebuked Saul. The execution punished a wicked people whose attack on Israel and defiance of God had brought a long-delayed sentence.
