Whenever the Philistine princes took the field, David carried himself with greater wisdom than all the other servants of Saul. Even as weighty responsibilities were laid upon him, he remained modest and unassuming. His wise course of conduct caused his name to be held in high honor and to be much prized. By this same course he drew to himself the love of the common people and of those belonging to the royal household.
