1 Samuel 25:29
Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling. Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.
The words belong to the period when David was hunted by Saul after Saul slew the priests of the Lord, when Abiathar son of Ahimelech escaped and fled to David, and David kept him in safeguard with himself because he who sought David's life sought Abiathar's life also. They were spoken in Abigail's humble and gentle meeting with David, in which her piety was evident in her face and words and actions. They express firm faith that David was the Lord's anointed and that his life was in God's hands and under God's care.
The assurance is that though a man is risen to pursue David and to seek his soul, his soul shall be bound and kept secure with the Lord, while the souls of his enemies shall be cast away as from a sling. On that ground David was entreated to leave vengeance for personal wrongs to God rather than shed blood needlessly, to fight the battles of the Lord, and to trust God to fulfill His promises to him. The appeal so made shows that a woman may act promptly and independently when she knows the Lord's way, while still honoring her husband as an equal partner in life's responsibilities.
