1 Samuel 31:2
And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul’s sons. And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul’s sons.
This verse stands within the record of the Philistine war that ended in the death of Saul and his sons. The engagement it describes took place near Shunem and Mount Gilboa. Saul confronted that Philistine force in fear and with a sense of being defenseless because God had forsaken him. In this he was the opposite of Gideon, who advanced into battle trusting in God, whereas Saul went into this battle without trust in God.
