1 Samuel 6:11
And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods. And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods.
The Philistines laid the ark of the Lord upon a new cart to send it back. With the ark they placed a coffer containing golden images of their tumors, or emerods, and mice as a trespass offering. The new cart was intended to prevent defilement of the ark. The objects were sent with the ark to give glory to Israel's God and to seek relief from the afflictions that were upon the Philistines and their land.
The cart was drawn toward Beth-shemesh by two cows that had never been yoked, even though they had been separated from their calves. The ark was entrusted to the kine, and the Lord directed them to carry it where it belonged, so their course in carrying it shows that its return was guided by God rather than by human hands or chance. Their obedience shows that God can guide His sacred work without human beings trying to control or steady it.
