2 Chronicles 1:12
Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like. Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
The promise was given after Solomon's approach to Gibeon. In answer to what he had asked, wisdom and knowledge were granted to him to govern and judge God's people. He had asked for wisdom to serve faithfully, rather than asking for riches, honor, long life, or the lives of his enemies, victory over them, and power over them, and that choice was pleasing to God.
In addition to what was asked, riches, wealth, and honor were given to him beyond those of any king before him or after him, as extra gifts he had not requested. Wisdom, ability to lead, and his greatness itself were gifts from God. True glory is not in wisdom or riches themselves, but in understanding and knowing the Lord, who acts with loving-kindness, justice, and righteousness.
The gift was tied to his request to serve faithfully rather than to gain riches, honor, or power over his enemies. God promised to establish his throne and to make his reign exalt Israel if he walked in God's ways and kept His commandments.
