2 Chronicles 23:15

So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house, they slew her there.

2 Chronicles 23:15 belongs to the account of Athaliah's seven-year wicked reign in Judah. After her son Ahaziah died she usurped the throne and killed, or tried to kill, the royal heirs, her son's children, to remove them from her way. She thought she had succeeded, but the infant Joash escaped and was hidden in the temple. Joash and his nurse were hidden in the temple by his aunt, the wife of Jehoiada the high priest.

Her reign became so corrupt that the people revolted, and Joash was brought out from hiding and proclaimed and made king. Joash was seven years old when Athaliah was slain. After Athaliah was removed from the throne and seized, she was slain when she reached the entrance of the Horse Gate by the king's house. Afterward, while Jehoiada lived the young king stayed under his influence, the house of the Lord was repaired, and the worship of the true God was established once more.
