2 Chronicles 24:15

But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.

The verse belongs to the record of the kings in Judah, standing in the account of the forty-year reign of Joash that follows Athaliah's seven-year wicked reign. It records that Jehoiada died full of days after a long life, at one hundred and thirty years old. His death in old age after a full life removed his strong guiding hand from Joash.

Jehoiada was a faithful priest and good leader whose faithful duty brought blessing. His death ended the good in the reign of Joash, whose reign was good only while Jehoiada lived. Joash was strong to do right only when guided by Jehoiada, and just as soon as Jehoiada died his own heart yielded to evil and he went into the way of the house of Ahab. All the human credit for the good done during the reign of Joash belongs not to Joash but to Jehoiada.

Joash began his reign when young and held to good while under his instructor, but as soon as that instructor was removed by death Joash went into wickedness. This is unlike Josiah, who also began his reign when young but developed strength of character to stand for God by himself alone and put forth every effort to reform the people.
