2 John 1:12

Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

The passage of 2 John 1:9-12 lays down rules from the Word of God for church fellowship and discipline. Within those rules, the statement about coming and speaking in person shows that those pursuing a course of transgression should be visited and labored with personally rather than dealt with only at a distance. If after such personal labor they still refuse to repent, they are to be separated from church fellowship and their names are not to be retained on the church books. This separation is necessary so that the saints will not be held accountable for their evil deeds.
