Elisha Leads the Blinded Syrians to Samariaby KalebRosendahl

2 Kings 6:20

And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

The king of Syria was preparing an ambush against Israel, but his secret design was revealed through Elisha so that his plans were defeated. Enraged at being thwarted, the king sent an armed host to apprehend the prophet himself. Yet God delivered His servant from the force sent to seize him.

Elisha led the blinded Syrians into Samaria, and then prayed that their eyes might be opened. The Lord opened their eyes, and they saw that they were in the midst of the city.

In this God is shown as an ever-present Helper in difficulty and trial, delivering His servant. Elisha was true to principle and true to God, and his work bore the divine credentials.

The opening of their eyes shows that the Lord can reveal what people could not see. He can place attackers in the power of their intended victims. Those thus placed in his power were then treated with mercy rather than killed.

This deliverance stands as a lesson for admonition to those upon whom the ends of the world are come.
