2 Samuel 23:10
He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil. He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.
This verse belongs to the record of David's victories and the catalog of his mighty men. It describes a warrior smiting the Philistines until his hand was weary and clung to his sword, gripping it so firmly that hand and weapon became inseparable in the fight. While he so fought, the Lord wrought a great victory that day. That victory belongs to the larger account in which triumph is ascribed to God's goodness and power.
The inseparable grip of hand and sword shows that witnesses of the Word should be united with it. Its truth is to be lived in them and not merely held as theory. The steadfast fighting to weariness is an example of resisting treason and oppression when that is the counsel God gives.
