Amos 5:16
Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.
Wailing will be heard in all streets and highways as lamentation spreads across the land because of rebellion against divine law and covenant. Even those accustomed to tilling the soil and those skilled in funeral dirges will be summoned to join in the mourning. This universal sorrow reveals the bitter harvest that follows turning away from God's requirements. In this way the prophecy stands among those portraying the condition of the world just before the Lord's second coming.
