Daniel Sees the Ram and the Goat at Sunsetby MarkWilson

Daniel 8:7

And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.

Daniel 8:7 belongs to Daniel's prophecies about future events, which reveal the mysteries of the ages to come. Daniel himself did not fully understand these prophecies, and they were sealed until the time of the end. The prophecy's subject is Rome, not Antiochus Epiphanes, with the chapter's symbols in this verse applied to Rome's historical role.

In the vision the symbols including the ram were already explained, while the part left unexplained was the 2300-day period, which Daniel 9 continues to address. The chapter's prophetic periods are reckoned from 457 B.C. as the proper starting year. The events foretold in the vision are now being fulfilled and will soon come to pass.
