Deuteronomy 12:7
And there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God hath blessed thee. And there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the LORD thy God hath blessed thee.
When Israel met together for the service of God, they were commanded to eat before Him and to rejoice with their households in all the work of their hands that He had blessed. The eating before the Lord was joined to household rejoicing, so that the gathering for worship included the whole family in glad acknowledgment of His blessing on their labor.
Worship and everything done for the glory of God is to be done with cheerfulness, with songs of praise and thanksgiving, and not with sadness and gloom. Cheerfulness belongs to the act of worship itself, and the same spirit is to mark all service rendered to God.
Rejoicing in work and in the blessings given by God to each household was to be a defining part of life in Israel. That rejoicing was to be joined with gratitude, with generosity, and with trust in His care. Held together in daily life, rejoicing, gratitude, generosity, and trust would safeguard health.
