Deuteronomy 18:2

The Levites were to have no tribal land inheritance for themselves. That withholding was to hold among their Israelite brethren, leaving them without a territorial portion alongside the other tribes. In place of land, the Lord himself was to be their inheritance, exactly as he had promised them.
