Deuteronomy 7:24
And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them. And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.
Deuteronomy 7:24 stands within the instruction of Deuteronomy 4-8 setting forth what God required of ancient Israel in order that they might be a holy people unto Himself. In it God pledged to deliver the enemy kings, the Canaanites, into Israel's hand and power, to destroy their name from under heaven, and to let no man be able to stand before Israel until they were destroyed. In its surrounding instruction obedience to God's commandments is set forth as essential to Israel's prosperity.
That instruction, including this verse, is also instruction for God's people today and for later generations, and is to be studied now. The words of the chapter admonish readers to heed the Lord rather than rely on human judgment. The urgency for studying it now is that the day of God's great final review is near, when the people of this world must stand before the Judge of all the earth to answer for their deeds, in the present time of investigation when every character will have been investigated and every case decided for eternity.
