Esther 2:14

In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.

Esther 2:14 records one step in the process by which Esther became queen in place of Vashti. When her turn came to go in to the king, she asked for nothing except what Hegai, the king's chamberlain and keeper of the women, appointed for her. In this she obtained favor in the sight of all who looked upon her.

The king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins. He set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen, then made a great feast for his princes and servants, made a release to the provinces, and gave gifts. Even then Esther had not yet revealed her people nor her kindred, as Mordecai had charged her, for she continued to obey Mordecai's command just as when she was brought up by him.
