Ezekiel 12:28

Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.

There shall be no more prolonging of any of God's words, but the word He has spoken shall be done without further delay. In its setting the people of Israel dismissed the vision as concerning a distant future, and the declaration answers that claim by affirming the fulfillment is near. The predicted judgment was to come in their own days, not in some remote age.

The prophecies of Ezekiel 11 and 12 belong to the perils of the last days and must receive critical, thoughtful attention. They are to be studied on knees before God. The declaration answers those who think prophetic fulfillment is far off or will fail, assuring them that God's word is certain.

For believers after the disappointment of an expected time, the declaration gives courage and hope. It shows that God foresaw their waiting and provided words to sustain their faith. Applied to the delay before Christ's coming, the passing of the expected date does not mean the promised event has failed.

The declaration calls believers facing apparent delay and disappointment to continue in faith and to wait patiently while holding fast their confidence. It warns that the time remaining for learning, work, and character change is brief. Because its warning is urgent and imminent, those who have trifled with light and laid stumbling blocks by a perverse spirit must retrace their steps and remove them, or God will turn His face utterly from them.
