Ezekiel 17:19

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.

Ezekiel 17:19 concerns Zedekiah, the last king in David's line to sit on the throne of the Lord, who had been made subject to the king of Babylon. He had entered into a solemn covenant before God to render loyal allegiance to that king. By despising the oath and breaking the covenant, he brought God's recompense upon his own head through the removal of the diadem and the taking off of the crown. This judgment overturned God's earthly kingdom, which would then pass successively through Babylon, Medo-Persia, Grecia, and Rome. The overturned kingdom shall be no more until He whose right it is comes, namely Jesus, to whom God will give the throne of His father David to reign forever.
