Ezekiel 18:29
Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal? Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
The house of Israel charged that the Lord's way is not equal, accusing Him of unfairness. The answer is that the Lord's ways are equal, righteous and just, while Israel's ways are unequal and unjust. His equality means He judges each person according to that person's own ways and conduct. In its context this leads into a call to turn from sin and transgression, receive a new heart and spirit, and live, since He takes no pleasure in anyone's death.
The chapter's message of reproof and warning must be spoken faithfully to His people at all times and in all places, whether they will hear or refuse to hear. It must be given so that mothers, fathers, and the children of Israel do not move forward blindly. Those who hear with patience and a generous, teachable spirit receive the blessing of the Lord, and all who hear the Lord's message are accountable for their response.
The verse upholds God's regard for justice: He sees unjust acts and will judge oppression. He accepts only true righteousness free from selfishness and tolerates not even the least injustice, in contrast to human ways that practice injustice. That standard requires giving workers fair compensation in proportion to their labor and contribution.
