Ezekiel 21:26

Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high.

The order to remove the diadem and take off the crown meant that Zedekiah's royal authority would be taken away, Israel's crown removed, and the throne of David overturned. This removal was God's judgment upon Zedekiah for rebelling and breaking his oath and covenant with Babylon. The same decree foretold a reversal of rank in which the lowly would be exalted and the high would be brought low. The overturned dominion would pass successively from Israel to Babylon, then to Medo-Persia in place of Babylon, then to Greece in place of Medo-Persia, and then to Rome in place of Greece, with each transfer overturning the previous earthly power.

Judah would not again be permitted to have a king, and the throne would not be reestablished on earth until He whose right it is should come and receive it, who is Jesus Christ, to whom God will give the throne of David and the kingdom. His kingdom will be established at the end of this present world, beginning the world to come. Thus the removal and transfer of the crown shows the final overthrow of earthly rule and the approach of Christ's rightful reign.
