Ezekiel 24:23
And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another. And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another.
The verse belongs to the sign given in the death of Ezekiel's wife. It foretells how the people would grieve when Jerusalem fell and the sanctuary was destroyed and their sons and daughters fell by the sword. Their head coverings staying upon their heads and their shoes staying upon their feet mean they would remain dressed and omit the usual outward rites of mourning. Instead of outward mourning and weeping, they would waste away under the weight of their iniquities and mourn together with one another over their losses.
