Ezekiel 31:9

I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

The verse portrays Assyria at the height of its prosperity as a fair cedar made splendid by the multitude of its branches. Those many branches stand for its greatness, power, and far-reaching extent. In that splendor it towered above the surrounding trees and surpassed in fairness, greatness, and beauty every other tree in the garden of God, unequaled by any, so that all the trees of Eden envied it.

The picture shows Assyria in its greatness and glory just before its downfall. That fall came because of its pride and cruelty. The rise and fall of Assyria set forth in this image is rich in lessons for the nations of the earth today.
