Ezekiel 42:6
For they were in three stories, but had not pillars as the pillars of the courts: therefore the building was straitened more than the lowest and the middlemost from the ground. For they were in three stories, but had not pillars as the pillars of the courts: therefore the building was straitened more than the lowest and the middlemost from the ground.
Ezekiel 42:6 belongs to the vision in Ezekiel 40-43 in which a man with the appearance of brass stands in the gate and measures the whole building with a reed in his hand. It describes side buildings with three stories that had no supporting pillars like the pillars of the courts, so the upper stories were narrower than the lowest and middle stories from the ground. Every least item of the building is measured and recorded, including little chambers, doorways, arches, pillars, stories in three levels, and the great gate facing east.
The careful directions for these buildings show that the Lord gives exact plans for His work and is prepared to help when matters are handled rightly. This exact measurement is the law of God and God's spiritual measure of the person. It means God brings His law into the smallest acts and dealings, requiring faithfulness in the least, honest and faithful dealings, loving God supremely and loving one's neighbor as oneself.
It calls for building character after the divine model through the power and grace brought through Jesus Christ in preparation for revealed glory. After the measuring is finished, the glory of God enters. The pattern is to be shown to Israel so they may be ashamed of their iniquities and measure the pattern, for the law of the house on the top of the mountain is most holy.
