Ezekiel 44:11
Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having charge at the gates of the house, and ministering to the house: they shall slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister unto them.
The Levites in view are those who had gone astray from God and had served Israel in the presence of its idols. Though unfaithful, they were not cast off entirely but were still given a place of service in the sanctuary. That assigned work was to have charge at the gates of the house, to care for the house itself, to slay the burnt offering and the sacrifice on behalf of the people, and to stand before the people to minister to them. This continuance in subordinate ministry did not restore them to priestly access to God's holy things, for they were still required to bear the consequences of their unfaithfulness.
