Ezra 6:13
Then Tatnai, governor on this side the river, Shethar-boznai, and their companions, according to that which Darius the king had sent, so they did speedily. Then Tatnai, governor on this side the river, Shethar-boznai, and their companions, according to that which Darius the king had sent, so they did speedily.
Tatnai, governor on this side of the river, with Shethar-boznai and their companions, did speedily according to what Darius the king had sent, carrying out his command promptly and letting the rebuilding work go forward without delay. The verse belongs to the rebuilding of the temple that was begun under Cyrus, continued under Darius, and completed under Artaxerxes, which together are counted as one decree concerning the restoration of Jerusalem. This chapter records Darius's second decree for the building of the house of the Lord.
The officials' prompt obedience shows that God moves upon the hearts of kings and rulers, and even unbelievers, in behalf of His people to do them good for His cause and to advance His work. Help and favors that God so moves the world to give are to be received and not cut off, withdrawn, or rejected merely because those who provide them do not share the faith. This receiving is to continue as long as the Spirit of God strives with the world.
This principle applies including in religious liberty work, while giving to the world the light of truth as presented in the Scriptures.
