Genesis 25:11

And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi.

The verse follows the account of Abraham's marriage to Keturah and the children born from that union, and records Abraham's death, which occurred about 1821 B.C. It continues the story of Abraham and his family, showing Abraham's gradual development of faith. It falls within the account of God's providential dealings with Abraham's family, the chosen family through which the Seed was to come.

After Abraham's death God blessed his son Isaac, and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi. It shows God's providence continuing for Isaac after Abraham's death, with God working for Isaac because Isaac did not contend for his rights but committed his cause to God. Its chapter also records a probable last meeting of Isaac and Ishmael and gives a forecast of the characters of Esau and Jacob. It begins the account of Isaac and his two sons with their defects, leading toward Jacob's victory when he becomes Israel, prevailer with God.
