Hosea 12:9
And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast. And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
Hosea, whose name means salvation, is the prophet who gives this word. He was the last of the great prophets to the northern kingdom. His work is placed at about 785 to 748 for its first three chapters, while chapters 4-14 belong to about 734.
The verse stands within his strong prediction of the coming captivity of the tribes. It belongs to his warning against alliance with Egypt. It belongs also to his pointing out of sad moral conditions and the degeneration and decay of the nation, and to his rebuke of the gross iniquity of priests and princes. He used his own painful and pathetic personal history to symbolize Jehovah's separation from His people. The verse stands within his closing remonstrance and tender exhortation, holding out rich promises of blessing from God as the result of repentance.
