Isaiah 3:26

And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.

Isaiah 3:26 belongs to a prophecy that reaches to the last days. In that end-time application its reproof falls upon the daughters of Zion for making outward appearance and display their chief concern. Vanity in dress and devotion to show stand exposed as the spirit rebuked by the prophecy.

In that setting the portrayal of lamenting entryways and a humbled figure seated in desolation upon the earth describes young professed followers of Christ who lack genuine Christian experience. It marks those who do not take up burdens and who evade personal accountability. Such ones will be brought low. In their abasement they will yearn for the grounded experience in God that they neglected to obtain.
