Isaiah 5:12
And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands. And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.
The feasts are filled with harp and viol and tabret and pipe and wine, given over to music and drink and pleasure. In the midst of those feasts the people do not regard the work of the Lord nor consider the operation of His hands. It describes the social condition of the people in Isaiah's day, when with oppression and wealth came gross drunkenness and a spirit of revelry. In Judah's later years that celebrated revelry was accompanied by pride and extravagance and drunkenness.
The indulgence in pleasure at great expense, with no attention to what God is doing, is the way of pleasure seekers. Such forgetfulness of God amid pleasure is a mark of their sin. That disregard is a failure to know and heed God.
This indulgence brings His judgment in rain withheld from heaven. Many houses great and fair stand desolate without inhabitant. Once-productive orchards are left ruined, as seen in Southern California. This disregard leads to the judgment of captivity.
