Isaiah 57:8

Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast discovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it.

Isaiah 57:8 belongs to the section of Isaiah 50 through 58 that those leading God's cause and those connected with His institutions must study. It belongs with Isaiah 55, 56, and 58, which pastors and people must study diligently to be aroused from spiritual stupidity. It is the Lord's reproof for disregarding His reproofs, for accepting only the word they choose, and for failure in thorough consecration to God.

It warns those in high positions and great responsibilities who have had great light but have not received it with faith and pressed on to know the Lord, leaving many souls unwarned of the reasons of faith and of what is truth, and neglect of this duty to warn brings judgment from the Lord. It calls those in the cities who profess truth for this time to wake up and give to others what the Lord has given them, arising and shining because their light is come. Those who in this way give the precious light of the gospel message will see the glory of God and can go forth with full assurance that angels will make impressions on the minds of those for whom they labor. When its reproof is heeded, complaining and every evil work stop, and the Lord manifests His power in the conviction and conversion of souls.
