Jeremiah 3:4

Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?

The verse is a call to turn to God as Father and to acknowledge Him as the guide of youth, from youth onward. That turning is to be sincere, calling upon the Lord as guide rather than merely speaking the words. The return it appeals for must be whole-hearted, not a divided commitment.

The call expresses trust in God's direction rather than reliance on human wisdom. It means taking hold of His strength and letting Him guide, instead of living for dress and amusement. It means trusting Him with every burden and relying on Him for guidance.

The words My Father and guide of youth are the sincere cry for help that the young are to utter, especially the young man who stands to choose between virtue and vice. He is to turn to God without delay and give Him his affections. Those who seek this guidance are led away from sin and away from Satan's snares, and away from living for dress and amusement. They are led toward peace and happiness, and toward heaven and immortal glory.
