Jeremiah 31:21
Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities. Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.
The verse belongs to the prophecy of Israel's restoration after the Babylonian captivity. It calls Israel to set up waymarks and high heaps to mark the route back, to set the heart toward the highway it had traveled, and to return to its cities. The restoration prophecies connected with it are a sure and plain promise that Daniel studied to understand the seventy years of Jerusalem's desolation.
Its call to establish markers applies to establishing memorials for God and Christian mission work in cities. Neglecting that city mission work shows a lack of Christlike effort.
