Jeremiah 32:29
And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.
Jeremiah 32:29 belongs to the history leading up to the fall of Jerusalem, announcing the coming Babylonian attack and burning of the city. It foretells that the Chaldeans fighting against the city, the forces of Nebuchadnezzar, would come and set Jerusalem on fire and burn it with its houses. Those houses included the rooftops on which incense had been offered to Baal and drink offerings poured out to other gods, acts that provoked God to anger, so that the burning was His judgment on the city for that worship. It belongs to the account of Jerusalem's final fall after repeated rebellions against Babylon, when Nebuchadnezzar's forces captured the city, burned the temple and the houses of its leading people, broke down the walls, and carried many people away to Babylon.
The verse is also one of the Old Testament prophecies describing the earth's desolation during the millennium. In that reckoning it depicts the Chaldeans burning Jerusalem and its houses. That burning stands as judgment for idolatry.
