Jeremiah 32:42
For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them. For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.
The promise was given as God's answer to Jeremiah's prayer at the time when his faith was tried as by fire. Jerusalem was on the verge of falling to the Chaldeans, its gates and palaces about to be burned and its inhabitants to be carried away captive. Even with that destruction imminent, the word declared that God's eternal purpose for Israel was yet to be fulfilled.
The great evil He had brought upon the people was chastisement, and with the same certainty He would bring upon them all the good He had promised. That promised good meant gathering them out of all the countries where He had driven them in His anger and wrath. He would bring them again to their own place to dwell safely, to be His people with Himself as their God.
He would also give them one heart and one way to reverence Him continually, for their lasting good and the good of their children after them. He would make with them an everlasting covenant that He would never turn away from doing them good. He would put reverence for Himself in their hearts so that they would not depart from Him, while He rejoiced over them to do them good and planted them firmly in the land.
As a result, fields would again be bought and sold in land then described as desolate, without man or beast. That renewal would reach Benjamin and the places about Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, of the hill country, of the valley, and of the south. It would come to pass because He would cause their captivity to return.
