Jeremiah 38:27

Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.

In chronological order the verse belongs among the events of Zedekiah's reign, coming after Jeremiah 37 and before Jeremiah 39. It falls within the history of the two years before Jerusalem fell. Its larger account in Jeremiah 38:1-28 shows rejection of the word and message of the Lord in reproof, counsel, and warning. Like Micaiah, Jeremiah suffered imprisonment for faithfully declaring the Lord's message rather than speaking what a wicked king wanted to hear.

When the princes questioned Jeremiah about his secret meeting and conversation with King Zedekiah, he answered them with the words the king had instructed him to use and give, so they stopped questioning him because they did not learn what had passed between the king and the prophet. The king's effort to conceal the interview continued his refusal to heed God's message, leaving Jeremiah burdened by the king's folly.
