Jeremiah 40:8
Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.
The verse lists those who came with their men to Gedaliah at Mizpah as Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite. It belongs to the events after Jerusalem's fall, giving the account of the Jews left after Zedekiah's captivity and their flight into Egypt. It stands in the closing chapters about Jeremiah the weeping prophet, which cover Jeremiah's own personal experiences and his going into Egypt.
It falls within chapters 32-45, described as history from the two years before Jerusalem's fall, and within the section of prophecies associated with Gedaliah's reign. Chapters 40 to 45 come after Jeremiah 39:1-14 in chronological order. Jeremiah's prophecies after chapter 20 are not placed in chronological order because the manuscript rolls were gathered together into one book, which makes no change whatever in the teaching, and the chapter itself nearly always clearly indicates its chronology.
