Jeremiah 49:12
For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it. Jeremiah 49:12 belongs to the section of Jeremiah containing prophecies against foreign nations. That portion is directed against Egypt, Moab, Ammon, Edom, Damascus, and Elam as powers that were to fall before Nebuchadnezzar. Within that wider collection of prophecies the emphasis falls especially on Babylon. The judgment threatened is set forth under the image of drinking from a cup.
