Jeremiah 50:20
In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve. In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.
In those days and in that time the iniquity of Israel when sought for shall be none, and the sins of Judah shall not be found, for those whom God reserves shall be pardoned so completely that He remembers them no more. This is the complete fulfillment of the new-covenant promise to forgive, in which searching finds no guilt remaining because pardon has removed it altogether.
The promise belongs to the holy remnant left in Zion and in Jerusalem, whose names are written among the living. It belongs likewise to Christ's faithful people, whose penitence and faith are met with forgiveness and whose sins are remembered no more, for Christ clothes them with His own righteousness so that they stand presented as holy and without blemish.
To the individual repentant sinner the same word gives assurance that guilt is completely taken away, the past forgiven and forgotten and blotted out forever. It therefore carries the invitation to return, since God receives the repentant with mercy and preserves those He forgives.
