Jeremiah 51:57
And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.
The Lord of hosts Himself declares judgment upon Babylon. He will make her princes, her wise men, her captains, her rulers, and her mighty men drunk, reducing her civil, intellectual, and military leaders alike to utter helplessness. That helplessness ends in death, described as a perpetual sleep from which they shall not wake. Their overthrow is therefore not mere military defeat but the direct judgment of the King whose name is the Lord of hosts.
