Jeremiah 9:10
For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.
The verse takes up weeping and wailing for the mountains and lamentation for the dwellings of the wilderness. They are pictured as burned up and made impassable, so that none can pass through them. The voice of cattle can no longer be heard there, while both the birds of the heavens and the beasts have fled and are gone, and this desolation of the land belongs to the punishment coming upon Israel.
Together with Joel's description of fire devouring the pastures of the wilderness and burning the trees, it gives a clue to what takes place near the first conflagration at Christ's second coming. That prophecy is still unfulfilled. For that reason it remains imperfectly understood.
