Jeremiah 9:5
And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity. And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.
Jeremiah 9:5 portrays people who deceive every neighbor and refuse to speak the truth. Their tongues have been schooled and trained to speak lies, and they exhaust and wear themselves out in committing iniquity and doing wrong. Such false speech joined with evil conduct stands set against and in opposition to the truth.
The description applies to those in positions of trust who reject God's principles, counsel, and wisdom. Even after repeated counsel they insist on following their own desires and their own way rather than relying on God's wisdom. In doing so they pursue selfish, ambitious plans of their own devising. Such wrongdoing and such conduct call for repentance and confession.
